On the evening of Wednesday 22nd February, the Irish Software Developers' Network opened TCube, a brand new venue for software professionals to learn and socialise. To mark the occasion, we hosted Mashable's Let's Talk Tech, and almost sixty mobile app developers came down.
The Mashed Up Mobile Revolution
In the beginning there was the iPhone and life was good (or at least it was once you got your head around xCode). Then along came Android with it's multitude of smartphones & tablets to spice things up. Now Microsoft have weighed in, getting great reviews with their latest Windows Phone. This has all the ingredients to become a classic battle royale as the big three compete for the consumer's eyeballs & designers/developers try to crank out cross platform solutions. Is HTML5 the one size fits all answer? Or do you need to go native to take advantage of each platform's hardware & unique UI attributes.
It's enough to make you scream, “Help! I'm a developer, get me outta here!”.
Mikey also opened up a competition to attendees. The prize a brand spanking new Nokia Lumia 800 (sitting in front of me here - I'm eyeing it very jealously) provided by Microsoft Ireland, is up for grabs for the best app built using TheAppBuilder at www.theappbuilder.com. (Closing date is Sunday 26th February at 23.59).
To qualify the term ‘Mashable' must be used in the app description.
A subscription to TheAppBuilder does not need to be purchased. It is free to build and preview an app with TheAppBuilder. However everyone who attended the Let's Talk Tech Event was provided with a discount code to publish their app for $1 (Month 1 discount - usually $29 per month. There is no contract with TheAppBuilder and the subscription can be cancelled at any time).
Free Beer and Pizza - Yay!
And that's not all.....courtesy of the world's leading anti-virus and threat protection company, ESET, and Ireland's newest recruitment agency for software professionals, A People Recruitment, there was plenty of beers and pizza to keep people nourished.
