Service to Business Award (l to r): Cecil Russell of HSBC, Nuala McDowell, Northgate Managed Services, Andy Ross, Chief Executive, Northgate Managed Services and Tracey Maxwell, bmiNorthgate Managed Services, a leading IT services provider in Northern ireland,  has scored a double whammy by winning two major accolades at the 2010 Belfast Telegraph Business Awards in association with BMI. The Newtownabbey-based business won the  ‘Business of the Year' award as well as scooping the award for ‘Excellence in Service to Business'.

Northgate Managed Services provides IT services to a broad range of over 2,000 private and public sector organisations across the UK and is Northern Ireland's largest indigenous IT services company.

The judging panel, chaired by leading Ulster economist John Simpson, was impressed by the company's consistent growth, innovation and commitment to people development, crowning it overall ‘Business of the Year'.

The Service to Business category recognises business to business relationships and services offered which have enhanced the business efficiency and productivity. Northgate was awarded for its successful journey through the recession which it achieved by investing in its people, processes and technologies to deliver added value to its widespread customer base.

Throughout 2009, the company doubled its order intake to £176m, won over 60 contracts with a value of more than £250,000, retained its 15 key clients and added 10 new major customers to its client list, not only protecting its existing workforce but supplementing it, by the creation of 100 new jobs.

Andy Ross, Northgate Managed Services Chief Executive (Pictured, right) said: "Our success at these awards is a fantastic accolade for our business and our people. This achievement demonstrates Northgate's commitment to developing excellence in our employees and delivering excellence in customer service.

"Amid the current economic climate, we understand the importance of reinvesting in our business to deliver value and results for our customers. This was particularly relevant over the past twelve months when we have focused on our technology, processes and people development - resulting in enhanced productivity, heightened customer satisfaction, an increased rate of employee and customer retention and growth. Business performance is extremely encouraging, which is not only good news for us, but also for the wider economy," said Ross.

ROUNDUP330.pngAlastair Hamilton, Chief Executive of Invest NI and a member of this year's judging panel said: "Northern Ireland business has traditionally punched above its weight on the world stage.

"Much of this success has been achieved by individual companies focusing strongly on their unique selling proposition and relying on the expertise of others to deliver essential support services. In many instances, it is these providers of services to other businesses that underpin end to end excellence in customer service delivery, with this year's winner being a worthy recipient," he concluded.

In addition, Northgate was commended in the ‘Excellence for People Development' category for its commitment to creating a sustainable learning and development culture, equipping staff with the appropriate skills, knowledge and processes to deliver innovative, industry-leading IT services.

The Belfast Telegraph Business Awards were announced at a gala ceremony in Belfast's Ramada Hotel, attended by representatives from leading local businesses, shortlisted across nine categories.
