Serial Entrepreneur Jonathon Siegel is Special guest @ GEC Open Enterprise Day
The Guinness Enterprise Centre (GEC) is hosting an Open Enterprise Day on Thursday May 27th, for entrepreneurs and early stage start-ups, which will focus on making an iPad or iPhone App.The free event runs all day and is open to all.
The open day is designed to provide practical, real-world advice on starting and growing a new start-up enterprise. It will include presentations and workshops from some of Ireland's foremost business innovators, including Zamano CEO John O'Shea and Visible Thread CEO Fergal McGovern.
The day features special guest speaker Jonathan Siegel, founder of the California-based ELC Technologies consultancy. Siegel is a serial entrepreneur, who has made investments numerous web companies, including RightCart.com which was later sold to Buy.com.
The Day's workshops and discussions will focus on three broad commercial activities: -
- Funding & professional services: Raising equity capital; investor-ready business planning; the Enterprise Ireland supports available; commercial partnerships and legal advice, IP generation and protection.
- Marketing: SEO, CPC advertising and online marketing and social media strategies
- Technology: IP videoconferencing as a sales tool and iPad App Development
The GEC's Joe Morley said, "The entire day is geared towards encouraging innovation in start-up businesses, and embracing the latest technologies to drive success.
In particular, Jonathan's interactive session will take a brief look at the iPhone and iPad marketplace, then dive right into the dirty work of building an iPad application. This is hands-on and technical and Jonathan will have iPads in the house," said Morley."
Siegel founded the consultancy ELC Technologies which builds stuff you love -- from FunnyOrDie to ESPN and Nascar. He holds degrees in Physics and Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
As an entrepreneur, Jonathan invested in RightCart.com, RightScale.com and RightSignature.com.
RightScale was sold to Index and Benchmark in 2009, after the company had raised $18m. RightCart.com was sold to Buy.com in 2007.
The Guinness Enterprise Centre was set up in 2000 and is managed by Dublin Business Innovation Centre (DBIC). It provides incubator space for new and established small businesses, primarily in the ICT sector. The centre facilitates a comprehensive range of enterprise development related support services and facilities to clients and other high potential early phase businesses in Dublin. As part of the DBIC group, clients of the GEC not only have access to incubation space but can also source start-up finance and obtain business advice.
