70 of Dell's Limerick Employees Have Volunteered to Help Stage The 2010 Games in June
Dell Ireland is providing the technology support needed to enable the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games to take place in Limerick next month. Around 1,900 athletes and over 3,000 volunteers will participate in the Games in June.
As one of the largest employers in the Limerick area, Dell has donated 136 computer systems to the Games' organisers Special Olympics Ireland.
The computers will be used at all 28 Games venues, and will support Competition, Medical, Operations and General Administration offices.
A total of 70 Dell employees will also volunteer their time during the games, which take place from Wednesday 9 June to Sunday 13 June in Limerick.
13 sports competitions will be held in 28 different venues throughout Limerick city and county.
Special Olympics Ireland Chief Executive Officer Matt English said: "We are thrilled to have the support of Dell for the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games.
"Technology plays such a significant role in running a sporting event of this size and having the support of the staff of Dell as well as access to the technological equipment we need means so much to us. Technological support is essential to ensure the smooth running of an event such as the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games".
Dell Vice President of Supply Chain Operations Sean Corkery said: "It's particularly exciting to have the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games happening here in Limerick this summer and we are delighted to have the opportunity to come on board and support one of Ireland's largest community and voluntary organisations.
"Special Olympics Ireland is a magnificent organisation and one that deserves as much support as possible from the business community. As well as providing support through technology we are also facilitating our employees who are seeking to volunteer their time at the games. I am delighted that to date over 70 have already volunteered."
The partnership between Dell and Special Olympics Ireland came about last September during Dell's annual Global Community Involvement Month. Special Olympics Ireland visited the Dell employees in Limerick in search of volunteers.
It was then decided that not only would Dell help to encourage volunteers for the Games but that they'd also support the Games by providing the organisers with access to technology that would be critical to the success of the Games.
