EMC Simplifies Backup With Mozy 2.0

New Mozy2xProtect Feature Delivers Local and Internet-based Backup

Claire Galbois-Alcaix of MozyEMC Corporation has announced the general availability in Ireland of its MozyHome 2.0 and MozyPro 2.0 for Windows services, offering local and online backup to consumers and businesses through an improved and easier to use service.

Mozy 2xProtect is a new feature which allows Mozy users to backup to a local external drive in addition to Mozy's online data centres at no additional cost. Other new enhancements include faster upload speeds and decreased bandwidth usage, along with new convenience and access features.

"If you're not backing up, losing data is easy," said Claire Galbois-Alcaix at Mozy. "A simple accident can mean saying goodbye to your work, pictures or music forever. Fortunately, backing up and getting your data back with Mozy 2.0 is even easier.

And, with new 2xProtect, your information can be automatically copied to a local external drive as well as to our secure online data centres, giving you twice the backup: one version in your home or office that helps you to restore quickly, and one offsite that you can access from anywhere and guarantees the safety of your information should anything happen to your devices."

In response to customer feedback, Mozy has made significant backup performance enhancements to the service. Mozy 2.0 customers can achieve up to 25 per cent faster backups compared with previous versions.

Mozy has also redesigned the service's interface to simplify its set up and use. Although advanced configuration options still allow power users to maintain the level of functionality they require to protect their data, the new Mozy interface makes it easier for consumers and businesses to verify that files have been backed up and stored securely.

Mozy 2.0's new 2xProtect feature extends Mozy's leadership in the online backup market and underscores the company's commitment to creating simple, yet innovative solutions to protect irreplaceable files - such as digital family photos and videos, music collections and business documents - against data loss.

Mozy 2xProtect provides this capability by automatically backing up files to an external drive in addition to a Mozy data centre. The result is a sound backup solution that involves having both a local and an offsite copy of one's personal or business information.

The service is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Mozy plans to release a Mac version of Mozy 2.0 later this year.

MozyHome offers consumers 2GB of free storage, while

MozyPro provides businesses with a web-based administrative console to manage backups,  with server and phone support.

Since its launch in 2005, Mozy has become the most trusted online backup service in the world, serving more than one million users and 50,000 business customers.

Mozy was the first company to offer a fully featured free online backup service. It was acquired by EMC Corporation in 2007 and now operates as part of EMC's Decho Corporation.

Partnerships include Cox Business, Comcast, McAfee, ChinaTelecom and Clearlybusiness, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barclays Bank.

Mozy is  now one of the world's largest online backup services for consumers and small businesses. It stores 25 petabytes of information at its data centres around the globe.
