Irish companies operating in the new media, telecoms, internet and entertainment sector are set to increase their exports by around €125 million this year, according to Ireland's Minister for Science,Technology & Innovation Conor Lenihan TD.
Minister Lenihan told an Enterprise Ireland event in London today that around 60 Irish companies have already clinched significant export contracts with global operators like Nickelodeon, CBBC, Telefonica, Disney and Vodafone.
The global entertainment and media market, where Irish companies such as Oscar-Nominated Brown Bag films and Cartoon Saloon operate, is expected to grow to €1.2 trillion by the end of this year, the Minister said.
Cartoon Saloon is also having some success in more traditional media, as a result of spin off books and merchandise linked to its oscar nominated animated film "The Book of Kells, which opened in the US on St Patrick's day.
Brown Bag Fil's Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty (pictured) and Cartoon Saloon's The Secret of Kells are good examples of Ireland's lively animation and digital media sector, which is dynamic and growing in size and in global reputation
