Irish Healthcare Software Provider Sees Healthcare at Home Prescribe More Than One Million Prescriptions
Helix Health is a leading provider of world-class healthcare software and IT solutions, has announced that an installation of its QicScript dispensary management system for healthcare provider Healthcare at Home Ltd, has processed more than 1 million prescriptions items in its first year of going live.
Serving over 150,000 patients each year at both its hospital and home sites, the high-tech home healthcare provider adopted Helix Health's QicScript in February 2009. The system was further developed to integrate with their customer relationship management system, linking their dispensing and administrative records. Since entering into the partnership some 150,000 patients have used Healthcare at Home services..
Steve Davis of Healthcare at Home said of the partnership, "Working with Helix Health, we have been able to seamlessly integrate treatment and administrative information to ensure all records are instantly matched and updated. Each patient and drug has a unique barcode so we can be sure that all prescriptions are labelled, administered and charged correctly, which at the end of the day gives patients and commissioners even more confidence in our ability to provide a high quality and cost-effective service".
In February 2010 an analysis by Dr. Foster Intelligence Ltd revealed the potential savings to the NHS if more people were to be treated in their homes. It estimated that if a wider uptake of Healthcare at Home service were undertaken by the NHS, more than £1billion could be saved each year. This followed a study published through the Northern Ireland Health Economics Group in 2008 which had shown that a range of treatments provided by Healthcare at Home were approximately 80% less expensive than comparable in-hospital treatment. With a customer base of over 10,000 users, Helix Health provides innovative technology solutions and healthcare software offerings to Primary Care, Pharmacy, Specialist Health Care and Private Consultants, Health Assessment and Government.
CEO, Howard Beggs (pictured) said: "Providing care to patients in their homes affords individuals greater independence. When treatment is conducted off-site it is crucial that healthcare providers can have the same confidence in their service as they would if carried out in a medical facility. By ensuring prescriptions and records are managed rigorously through reliable software systems we can maintain and backup longstanding patient records, virtually eradicate the risk of human error and provide patients and practitioners with greater flexibility in their service".
Pharmacy robots have also been integrated into the service and are in operation at Healthcare at Home's York Hospital site. The mechanised dispensing devices enable greater efficiency, free up the pharmacists' time to consult with patients and reduce the risk of human error.
