Search Engine Giant Extends Business Operation in Dublin with Google Local and Google Maps - 200 Jobs to be Created
Google is to establish a new Operations Centre in Dublin focused on its popular location based products such as Google Local and Google Maps.
The new Operations Centre will be based in Eastpoint Business Park and plans to be fully operational this year and reflects the positive experience Google has had here in Dublin, where it employs 1500 people already from its Barrow Street European HQ.
David Martin, Director, Geo Operations for Google in Europe, said: "Dublin is rapidly becoming the multilingual internet capital of Europe and Google is proud to be leading the charge on this and further increasing our presence here.
The Dublin Operations Centre will primarily focus on our geographic based products to ensure a great local experience for our users across Europe. We are continually seeking to improve and further develop our location based products and Dublin will now be a centre of excellence for this activity.
Google Maps displays so much more than the geography of a place, and now incorporates rich data from thousands of sources in different languages from across the world and also includes local business listings. With the increasing proliferation of smart phones and Google's Android platform for mobiles, more and more people are using local and mapping products on a daily basis. This Operations Centre will help to manage these data sources and ensure Google Maps users have a great experience and that the information we give them is even more local, accurate, useful and up to date," Martin concluded.
John Herlihy, Vice President, Global Ad Operations, Google, said: "We are very pleased to expand our mandate in Ireland with this new investment. Our EMEA headquarters is located here and we have been successful in attracting very talented people from across Europe to work in Dublin. The new Operations Centre will build on this success and will strengthen the importance of Dublin to the company as a whole."
