Strencom Wins €500K Private Cloud and Connectivity Deal with Alliance Medical
Irish data network and cloud computing provider, Strencom, has won a €500k contract to provide a private cloud and wide area network (WAN) solution to Alliance Medical who provide MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-Ray services from eleven diagnostic imaging facilities throughout Ireland.
In an effort to make the entire patient workflow electronic, Alliance Medical decided to tender for a WAN and a cloud solution and says Strencom was chosen based on its ability to provide a combined private cloud and connectivity service. Strencom will connect key Alliance Medical locations using its private WAN. The highly sensitive nature of patient information, coupled with the increasing adoption of bandwidth intensive speech recognition software to dictate medical notes, meant that security and broadband capacity were key considerations. The Strencom solution does not traverse the internet thus eliminating possible privacy breaches and broadband contention issues.
Alliance Medical claims that its innovative approach to healthcare virtually eliminates waiting times with potentially life-saving results. The Strencom solution will enable Alliance Medical and its RIS PACS supplier, AGFA Healthcare, to improve collaboration between referring doctors, reporting consultant radiologists and clinical staff, with accelerated diagnosis and treatment for patients.
Ellen Leacy, Quality and Processes Manager, Alliance Medical, said: "This project is fundamentally about improving patient care. We wanted to offer our patients a faster, more efficient and streamlined service. Our ambition is to be a healthcare provider who utilises the smartest IT infrastructure for the benefit of our patients. Strencom's private cloud and WAN package will enable us to achieve this and, importantly, ensures patient confidentiality at all times."
Strencom is also providing Alliance Medical with a private cloud whereby it will manage and host all the servers and hardware in a virtualised environment. The private cloud allows Alliance Medical to benefit from all the associated cost savings of cloud computing including removal of capital expenditure for servers and maintenance costs. It also means that they know the exact location of their data at all times.
Alliance Medical will now be able to streamline the entire patient processing pathway and reduce the risk of clinical errors. This removes manual data entry, the risk of human error and increases the speed of the diagnostic pathway. In addition, Alliance Medical is soon to launch a ‘Mediweb Server' service allowing GP's to remotely log-in and request diagnostic examinations and access their patients' records, all securely over the Strencom private WAN.
Tim Murphy, CEO, Strencom, said, "Alliance Medical was faced with the dual challenge of cost effectively connecting multiple locations, while also needing to address its growing hosting requirement. Our ability to deliver a solution that addresses both these needs, in a private environment, proved to be compelling package for Alliance Medical."
