37 Year Full-time Tenure to End for John Hennessy as he Retires as Managing Director from LM Ericsson
John Hennessy is to retire as managing director from LM Ericsson, a position he has held since 2003 after spending a colossal 37 years with the company.
But the company has not lost him forever because from 1st January 2011 Hennessy will take up the position of Chairman of LM Ericsson Holdings Ltd and will also become a Director on the board of LM Ericsson Ltd (LMI).
Ericsson is a leading global provider of technology and services to telecom operators, including 2G, 3G and 4G mobile technologies, providing support for networks with over 2 billion subscribers. Ericsson has been a major supplier of telecommunications infrastructure and services in Ireland since 1957, and currently employs 1500 people across its two sites, Clonskeagh, Dublin and Athlone Co Westmeath. The key activities are Research and Development, Marketing and Sales, and Internationally Traded Professional Services.
Hennessy will also be taking an advisory role within Ericsson's Region Western & Central Europe including involvement in relations with the Irish Government and government agencies, relevant industry bodies and the Telecommunications Regulator.
Replacing Hennessy is Michael Gallagher who has been appointed Head of LM Ericsson Ltd, Ireland, which he will perform in addition to his existing responsibilities within Ericsson's Research & Development facility in Ireland. Michael has previously worked for Ericsson in Canada, Sweden and has been employed with Ericsson for 30 years mainly in Research and Development.
