Citrix to Expand Irish Tech Heads

Citrix Say Irish Success Dependent on Hiring Skills Quickly, But IDA Chief Dismisses Irish ICT Skills Shortage



CITRIX_John_Kelly.pngCitrix Systems have announced it is to expand its team in Ireland by upto 50 people, 11 of which are thought to be in technical support.



Citrix is a global provider of virtual computing solutions that help people work; through its virtual meetings, desktops and datacenters solutions. The company says its virtualization, networking and cloud solutions deliver over 100 million corporate desktops and touch 75 percent of Internet users each day.



Established in 1997, the headquarters of Citrix Customer Technical Support and Education Services for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA), currently employs 150 people across a range of disciplines. The company says the new jobs are required to support the on-going growth of Citrix technical services business in the EMEA region.



It provides support to partners and end users across the entire EMEA region, for all Citrix technologies including hardware networking products as well as software virtualisation technologies. In addition, the Dublin site has diversified to include software development activities, online content and customer self-help technology and product and program activities. The site also anchors the EMEA Education business, which involves selling Citrix Education products to partners and end users across EMEA.



John Kelly, (pictured) senior director, Customer Technical Support and Education Services, EMEA, said: "As our customers embrace virtual and cloud computing as an agile and cost effective way to deliver desktops and applications to employees, Citrix continues to grow across EMEA. Our services business in Europe is also growing rapidly; as such we have immediate career opportunities at all levels from graduate to management for technology professionals who want to advance their career in a fast paced, customer-focused technical environment.



Recognising the ongoing skills shortage in Ireland. Kelly added: "As a services business one of the key ingredients for ongoing success and growth is the availability of the right skills and talent. Good technical skills, customer management skills and language skills are relevant, although Citrix has an in-house technical training team to help new recruits transition their skills from other technologies to Citrix specific ones.


We are excited with this latest investment but our success is heavily dependent on filling these positions with the right talent quickly."



However, Barry O'Leary, the CEO of IDA Ireland, which has supported Citrix's presence in Ireland, seems to dismiss the ICT skills shortage which is widely reported and acknowledged in the community. He said: "These 50 new jobs follow on from last year's 30 jobs announcement, and is very welcome news from a leading ICT company. The expansion illustrates that Ireland is an increasingly attractive location for technical services due to the talented and highly skilled workforce."
