IT Carlow Student Robbie Lynch Puts Java Programming Skills to Build Leaving Cert App for Android Market

There's been a lot of controversy recently regarding Job Bridge and internships in general schemes, so we thought we'd highlight the determination and passion for one young software student at IT Carlow who has earnt the princely sum of €2.97 for a whole summer's work!

Second year software development Robbie Lynch spent this summer utilising Java and XML skills learnt in his first year at IT Carlow to build an Android App, Leaving Cert Dog, aimed at leaving cert students, and is ecstatic with the downloads of the App, having spent four months working passionately and tirelessly on a Lite and Pro version which, he says, is amazingly useful and easy to use.

According to Lynch, downloads in the first month of release have smashed annual sales goals, by delivering a profit of €2.97! He said: "Leaving Cert Dog has been a phenomenal hit with Android users all over Ireland. I'd like to thank all the 85
leaving cert students who have downloaded the Lite Version of the App (Free) and a big thank you goes out to the 3 students who have downloaded the PRO Version which has helped him reach this incredible milestone in just one month."

Lynch said that the experience of developing his Leaving Cert Dog app has been invaluable and now more than ever sees an entrepreneurial career in mobile app and software development and has even opened his own company Cacafogo Software.

IrishDev.com asked: "What's next for Leaving Cert Dog?" Lynch replied: "Design. With the foundation already laid, and with the dust settling after the first month, it's time to concentrate on making Leaving Cert Dog as user friendly as possible. We're always open to feedback, and are always striving to make the App better."

Lynch has also released a free Android App, Ultra BMI Calculator that calculates Body Mass Index based on height and weight.
