A Midsummer Night's Dream Follows Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth as Part Three of MindConnex Shakespeare in Bits Series
Following the 2010 release of Romeo & Juliet and Macbeth, Irish based digital learning solutions company, MindConnex Learning, has released the third installment of its Shakespeare in Bits app series for iPad, A Midsummer Night's Dream, which is now available on the App Store.
Shakespeare In Bits is an innovative, new way for educators and students to engage with the works of the famous Bard, and is brought to life on iPad to aid student learning and teaching effectiveness. The app enables them to read, digest, learn and understand the text in bite-sized ‘mini-lessons' or bits, as the name suggests.
According to Michael Cordner, CEO of MindConnex Learning, Shakespeare's plays were written to be seen and heard, and were never intended to be merely read. Shakespeare In Bits is designed specifically to provide students and educators with a more effective way of tackling the works of the Bard through a fully integrated, multimedia package that marries high-quality animation, professional audio and original play text with translations, notes, analyses and character maps.
Brought to life with three hours of high-resolution animation and a professional audio soundtrack, each Shakespeare In Bits play is presented side-by-side with completely unabridged text, with portions of text being highlighted while it is spoken in the play, making it extremely easy to follow. Shakespeare In Bits also offers a unique in-line translation tool that helps students to understand difficult, antiquated words and phrases within the context of the original play text in a single click. The integrated combination of text, audio and graphics is specifically designed to facilitate learners of varying abilities and learning styles.
Each play within the series also comes with biographies of each cast character which can be accessed from either the main play or through a dedicated Cast feature. An illustrated character relationship map demonstrates key characters and their inter-relationships in the play. All plays also come with a wide selection of integrated analyses and study notes for each scene to help students fully understand plot summaries, key themes, language, imagery and quotes from the play. An easy-to-navigate visual scene selection menu enables students to quickly get familiar with the play's sequence of events or to jump to a specific scene of choice.
Cordner, said: "We are delighted to be announcing the latest title in our Shakespeare In Bits series. Students continue to struggle with four-hundred year old language, making it all the more difficult for educators to teach and engage them using conventional tools. We believe that it is the most comprehensive solution out there for studying and appreciating the works of the Bard."
