Canadian telecommunications software company, BTI Systems, has opened offices in Belfast city centre.
BTI Systems is a global supplier of Intelligent Service Edge solutions which includes the development of state of the art systems for the delivery of high bandwidth voice, video and data communications.
Plans by the North American telecommunications company to establish a £6.7million base in Belfast were announced only five months ago in October 2008. Sixty people will be based in Belfast, engaged in software development and the delivery of advanced technical solutions for an international client base.
The building, which Invest Northern Ireland invested £660,000 towards the total project cost, will serve as the company's European Headquarters and Software Centre of Excellence. Opening the offices in his first official role as Invest NI's new Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton said, "I am delighted that BTI Systems has chosen Northern Ireland as it's a resounding endorsement of our talented people, cost competitiveness and growing knowledge infrastructure."
Gregory Koss, Chairman and CEO, BTI Systems added: "Today symbolises the beginning of a new phase in our global expansion, with Northern Ireland playing a key role in the delivery of best-in-class technologies and solutions for our European client base."
"With the changing nature of the global marketplace, our customers are increasingly looking to cost effective, compact, energy-efficient solutions for high-definition video, wireless backhaul, and Ethernet business services. This new headquarters and software centre will ensure that we can provide an even more rapid response from an accessible European location and maintain our commitment to delivering technology that maximises our customers return on investment."
Koss concluded, "We have been immensely impressed by the calibre of people recruited to date and are confident that working in partnership with our main development centre in North America, that our R&D potential can be fully maximised."
