High Count of Irish Academics and Spreadsheet Experts Present at EuSpRIG's 10th Annual Conference in Paris
A strong Irish delegation will be joining experts from Europe and North America to present at The European Spreadsheet Risks Interest Group's (EuSpRIG) 10th annual conference, "The Role of Spreadsheets in Organisational Excellence" in Paris, France on July 2-3.
EuSpRIG offers Risk Managers the world's only independent, authoritative & comprehensive web based information describing the current state of the art in Spreadsheet Risk Management, and the annual conference provides a forum for researchers, practitioners, trainers, vendors, consultants and auditors. EuSpRIG provide speakers and content for professional societies, associations, conferences and journals.
Dr Kevin McDaid will be joined by academics from Dundalk Institute of Technology to present three separate studies
The first, 'Error Estimation in Large Spreadsheets using Bayesian Statistics' will be co-presented by Leslie Bradley, 'An Analysis of the Impact of Named Ranges on Debugging' with Ruth McKeever and Brian Bishop, and lastly Derek Flood and Fergal McCaffery on 'NLP-SIR: A Natural Language Approach for Spreadsheet Information.'
In addition to the team from DKIT, published spreasheet expert, committee member of software tester user group SoftTest Ireland, and CEO of SysMod, Patrick O'Beirne, will present on simple controls which anyone can use for self-checks in spreadsheets.
The Irish contingent will support the keynote speakers Dr Louise Pryor, Director of the UK Board for Actuarial Standards and a member of the UK's Financial Reporting Council and Dr Martin Erwig, Associate Professor of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University, USA.
Grenville Croll, EuSpRIG chair commented "Most people do not appreciate the important role that spreadsheets play in our modern society, nor do they appreciate the risks that we are running with this out of control but ubiquitous technology. Here at EuSpRIG we offer thought leadership and guidance on the technical and human aspects of examining, containing and controlling spreadsheet technology."
Croll who is also presenting at the conference, continued, "It is a considerable achievement for any organisation, especially a non-profit and voluntary organisation such as EuSpRIG, to be able to celebrate this important anniversary with such an interesting, expansive and international programme. We welcome our delegates and presenters to Paris and to the 10th Annual EuSpRIG Conference particularly the Irish who are so very well represented."
Other speakers in Paris include Susan Allen of HBOS, Angela Collins of BDO Stoy Hayward, Drs Sriram Iyengar & John Svirbely of medal.org and the University of Texas, Bill Bekenn & Ray Hooper from Fairway Associates, Professor Tom Grossman and colleagues from the University of California, San Francisco, the host team of Françoise Tort, François-Marie Blondel & Éric Bruillard and their Belgian colleague Étienne Vandeput from the Université de Liège, and Matthew Dinmore from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Individual consultants including Angus Dunn, Sebastian Dewhurst and John Hunt complete the line-up of seventeen papers in total.
