Rise in Irish Tech Innovavation

Agile Technologies CEO Says Cloud, API and Open Source Technology Are Bringing About an Increase in Irish Innovation

AGILE-Locle.pngAgile Technologies, the full turnkey eBusiness solutions provider based in Dublin, has celebrated its second year in business with the release of several innovative web products developed for Irish entrepreneurs, including SortMyBooks.com, GradPool and winner of Eircom Web Innovation Fund and Docklands Innovation Park Enterprise Awards 2009, Locle.com and Realex Payments.

With the prolification of business opportunities brought about by the emergence and adoption of cloud technology, Agile Technologies has built a successful web software agency which assists Irish and International entrepreneurs in bringing their innovation online, as well as helping traditional businesses gain greater efficiency by redefining their processes and bringing them online too.

According to Agile Technologies co-founder and CEO Romans Malinovskis, three key movements in technology are converging and with it, the possibility of bringing huge technology projects to market very quickly and at the fraction of the cost of traditional software development projects. There are now openings for boundless opportunities for business entrepreneurs across the country.

Firstly, open source technology, the mechanism for companies to utilise key components developed by other people into their own projects, is creating a platform on which entrepreneurs can spring board.

A good example of this is the open source PHP based web-framework, Agile Toolkit which is available under an open source license (LGPL). Developed over 4 years ago, Agile Technologies has used this framework for many projects, and because they have invested their expertise and experience into a shared library, each new project costs less time to deploy. This year the Agile Toolkit was enhanced with better integration with JavaScript UI libraries, support for HTML5 and several components for cloud-computing for data storage and parallel processing, with no licensing or any hidden costs associated with it.

Secondly, cost-busting Cloud technology, which has already facilitated a sea-change in technology development, is allowing software producers to make their business models simpler by bringing their products online and making them available to a wider global audience.

Agile Technologies has recently completed a 6-month project called Sort My Books On-Line (SMBO) which is getting ready to launch. SMBO is the successor for a successful desktop accounting product, Aisling Software, for small and medium businesses developed and co-owned by Co. Kerry business woman Aileen Hannan. The software-as-a-service nature means rolling out upgrades and then supporting a multiple versions will now be a thing of the past, and the significant cost-savings can be applied to their bottom line, or further development of the product.

Lastly, countless companies have followed the lead of organisations such as Apple, Google and Salesforce.com who drove innovation in technology by opening their API's to third party developers. Once again, the landscape has changed as entrepreneurs realise that they have an instant platform of hundreds of thousands of customers globally, and all they need to do to get them is to have a good, well engineered product.

Malinovskis said, "Over the last two years we have had numerous invitations to quote for really innovative work using third-party API's and more latterly cloud technology. What's really interesting though, is that our clients don't have to be a technologist to create a winning technology product anymore. The excitement of ordinary people approaching us to develop real-world solutions is contagious."

Agile Technologies have released a series of short videos showcasing some of their recent projects. For further information visit http://agiletech.ie
