Online Trade Figures Show Growth of 45% Proving It's a Real Opportunity for Irish Businesses Says Lyons
January has proved to be a record month for Dublin start-up Realex Payments, which doubled its UK business this January.
Founder Colm Lyon (Pictured) said the positive growth is proof that Irish businesses like Realex can do well in online markets.
The company processed more than €781m worth of business for online retailers, an increase of 45% on the figures for January 2009, when the Company processed payments of €538.
However, the value of Realex trades processed for the UK market were up by 112%, while its international trade values were up by 55%. This reflects Realex Payments internationalisation strategy to expand its operations overseas.

Realex Payments provides online payment processing services to Irish and international clients. The value of trades processed for Irish businesses grew by 19% to €438m last month, up from €368m for January last year.
January is traditionally a busy a month for Realex Payments, which also has offices in London and overseas, with many airline sales, people planning holidays, paying annual bills such as insurance and motor tax and college applications.
Online charity donations were also much higher this January, as a direct result of the earthquake in Haiti. In the weeks after the tragedy, Realex Payments processed donations valued at more than €5million.
Commenting on the figures, Realex Payments CEO and Founder Colm Lyon said; "these figures are very positive and they prove that the online channel remains a real growth opportunity for Irish businesses and also that Irish businesses such as Realex can participate in overseas online markets".
