Vodafone & Samsung's Green Phone

First eco-Friendly Mobile Made from Recycled Material With a Touch-Screen and Solar Charging panels

Samsung'sBlueEarth-ecophone is made dfrom plastic bottles and has a solar charger on the backVodafone Ireland and Samsung have launched the Samsung Blue Earth in Ireland. It's their first eco-friendly mobile phone with solar panel charging and the body of the handset is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Blue Earth comes with a 5-star energy efficient charger which uses only 0.03W of power in standby mode. By charging with the integrated solar panel that is  located on the back of the phone, users can generate enough power to use the device anytime and anywhere.

Solar energy is considered one of the most eco-friendly energy sources and it helps users reduce  their usage of energy from non-renewable sources.

Blue Earth combines the latest high-end multimedia features with a sleek,  three inch touch-screen, low energy consumption and solar panel charging. It also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with face recognition software.

Samsung believes it marks a quality leap in the range of environmentally responsible handsets available.

Blue Earth has a user interface designed to draw attention to preserving the environment. It features an 'Eco mode'  in which screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth can be set to an energy-efficient mode with just one click. Its 'Eco Walk' function allows users to see the number of trees that have been saved by walking instead of driving.

Samsung Mobile Country Manager Gary Twohig explained: "Until now, environmental friendly mobile phones were primarily devices with lower energy consumption and limited functions. Samsung's commitment goes much further, because our handsets are environmentally-friendly in all the phases: from their production to their very use. We are delighted to be partnering with Vodafone and its Green Agenda with the launch of this exclusive device in Irish market"  .

Vodafone Foundation & Corporate Responsibility Manager Laura Turkington, said: "Vodafone is very pleased to be able to offer this innovative new Samsung phone which delivers a big step forward in the sustainability of mobile devices whilst offering high end functionality and style.

"Offering increasingly environmentally-friendly devices is a key part of our overall commitment to a more sustainable society. Vodafone Ireland has been extremely active in the green space, and the introduction of this handset in our lines allows us to give our customers more green choices," Turkington said.

The packaging for Blue Earth is made from easy-to-recycle paper and is printed in soy ink. It also suggests a simple DIY idea to reuse the package as a photo frame or a pencil box.

Samsung Blue Earth is available in Vodafone stores and from distributors nationwide
