MoSync Adds Android Support Bringing One Tool for All Mobile Platforms Closer
Swedish software company MoSync AB has announced support for Android devices in its cross-platform mobile development SDK, a move that could make life much easier for mobile apps developers.
MoSync makes any mobile application reachable for billions of people around the world. MoSync is a state-of-the-art technology that enables developers to publish any mobile application to a broad range of devices and platforms.
The MoSync SDK is a fully featured software development kit designed to help mobile application developers create anything from simple programs for basic mobile phones to advanced applications that exploit the full potential of the latest intelligent smart phones and mobile devices.
The latest release of the MoSync SDK (version 2.3), which is now emerging from beta testing, provides support for Android 1.5 (Cupcake)-compatible mobile devices.
Lead developer Anders Malm said: "We chose to concentrate on Cupcake first because then the apps will work on all the current Android devices out there. Programs written for Cupcake will run seamlessly on devices running Android 1.6 (Donut) and 2.0/2.1 (Eclair). Full support for Eclair will follow soon".
With the addition of Android, MoSync's range of supported platforms continues to grow impressively. The range also includes Symbian, J2ME, Windows Mobile, Moblin (soon MeeGo), Pocket PC, and Smartphone 2003.
MoSync AB will showcase MoSync 2.3 at the International CTIA WIRELESS Show on March 23-25, 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and on CommunicAsia 2010 in Singapore on June 15-18.
Henrik von Schoultz, MoSync co-founder (pictured) said: "We believe that MoSync is genuinely changing the way software is produced and used in the mobile world. It just doesn't make sense to have different development tools for different platforms like Android, Java, Symbian, Window Mobile - the cost of porting is simply too high".
MySQL founder David Axmark, is one of the principle investors in MoSync AB. Axmark says: "We invested in MoSync because we saw a need for tools suitable for developing across various platforms.
"Everyone can see the explosion of new devices with a multitude of features on the market. It is high time that someone simplified developing for many devices. Making the tools open source using a dual-licensing approach will allow everyone to use them,"Axmark says.
MoSync builds cross-platform applications that run flawlessly on hundreds of mobile phones and handhelds, and is proven to radically cut development cost and time-to-market. MoSync is easy, fast, and cost-efficient - mobile development made easy. The company is located in Stockholm, Sweden, and has representation in Singapore.
