The Appys 2010

Inaugural Awards Ceremony Celebrating the Brilliance of the Irish Mobile App Development Community

Edward_Conmy.pngThe Appys 2010 has announced two new partnerships for its inaugural ceremony celebrating the Irish mobile App development sector. Foras na Gaeilge will now sponsor the ‘Best use of the Irish Language in an App' category and Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) has become the education partner for the 2010 Appys.

The app sector is now a fully-fledged and influential media category in its own right. The Appys 2010 is open to all Irish and international app developers and those who have paid for the development of an app. In addition to the category winners, one lucky winner will walk off with a prize of €2500.

Des Doris, MD of Alchemy Events and co-organiser of The Appys, said: "You could say those who have ideas for apps are the ‘new authors', the developers are the new editors and the development agencies the new publishers. With hundreds of thousands of apps to choose from across all the smart phone platforms, the worldwide app industry is valued at close to €7 billion in 2010 and it's predicted the industry will be worth €18 billion by 2012 as smart phones become more ubiquitous."

Doris continued: "It's great to have Foras na Gaeilge and DIT as partners because they highlight two very important aspect of the app sector that may not be readily recognised. Firstly there are many Irish language apps and secondly there are educational programmes for aspiring app developers in Ireland."

On the night of the Appys awards ceremony, taking place in the newly opened The Gibson Hotel in the Point Village on November 4th, the winner of the Best Developer Grand Prix will walk away with a cash prize of €2,500.

Applications for the categories are being sought, but hurry because the closing date for entries is 8th October.
