Irish Web Tool Decisions for Heroes Awarded €100k from Arthur Guinness Fund

DECISION_FOR_HEROES_ARTHUR_GUINNESS_FUND.pngDecisions For Heroes, the Irish website that helps rescue workers deploy their resources with more efficiency, has been awarded €100,000 investment and and professional business monitoring from the 2011 Arthur Guinness Fund.

The Arthur Guinness Fund is €2.5 million investment vehicle designed to support social entrepreneurs and act as a springboard in further developing their initiatives. It was established as part of the Guinness brand's 250th celebrations in 2009, and continues the philanthropic spirit and legacy of the brand's creator, Arthur Guinness.

Speaking at the announcement, Tanya Clarke, Marketing Director, Diageo Ireland said: "Arthur Guinness, the original philanthropist, provided the inspiration for the Arthur Guinness Fund and the Guinness brand is delighted to be in a position to continue his philanthropic legacy today through the Arthur Guinness Fund.

Investment by the Arthur Guinness Fund in Decisions For Heroes means the D4H team can work to enhance their technology, and secure big national contracts with rescue operations in other countries," Clarke added.

Decisions For Heroes graduated from the DIT Hothouse in 2009, an entrepreneur start-up programme based in Docklands Innovation Park, Dublin. It helps record and analyse rescue operations and is available to all emergency response teams globally. Instead of archiving information as paperwork, the software generates real-time profiles of members, available resources, and experience levels. Decisions For Heroes uses this data to deliver live and intelligent information to the field.

Talking to this morning, D4H founder, Robin Blandford explained how the company will be using the investment, which will be paid in two installments of €50k over two years. He said: "We want to reach 100% penetration in Ireland and have recently recruited a sales manager to help us reach this goal. After that, the focus will move to international markets."

Blandford added: "We are also looking at how better to capture and analyse data, improve our statistics and charts, and on predictive analysis. Additionally, we're also planning to broaden our mobile applications and launch a service which will allow rescue teams on site to send real-time images and audio data of a rescue situation back to their command post."

Decisions for Heroes was one of ten Irish start-ups that recently exchanged 10% equity for €50k in the Enterprise Ireland Internet and Games Competitive Start Fund (more)
