Botswana Savings Bank Choose CR2

Dublin Based CR2 to Implement Fintech to Empower BSB Customers with Suite of Digital Banking Channels & Payment Services

Kabelo Ngwako, BSB Director of Support Services, said he looks forward to working with CR2 on this significant milestone for the bank

Dublin headquartered digital banking provider, CR2, has won another contract on the African continent, this time to help Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) to execute their digital transformation strategy by launching a suite of digital banking channels and payment services for the bank's customers.

The sheer importance of providing dynamic digital banking payments and services has been highlighted by the Covid-19 pandemic as customers move away from branches and physical interaction. The new suite of digital services will empower the BSB’s customers to perform transactions quickly and efficiently with full access to relevant lifestyle-based digital services such as Person to Person payments and utility payments. The bank’s customers will be able to access their accounts, products, loans and mortgages remotely whilst being able to track their spending and budgets through Personal Financial Management (PFM), thus creating a better all-round customer experience.

Wholly owned by the Government of Botswana, BSB has a specific mandate of mobilising the nation to save, as well as providing inclusive financial services. They have a small network of branches throughout Botswana with their key branches located in Gaborone and Francistown. However, their customer reach is increased through a partnership agreement they have with Botswana Post which allows them to offer their banking services through postal services nationwide network of 120 postal outlets. These new digital channels will allow them to attract a wider client base and tap into the underbanked population in Botswana.

CR2 has delivered thousands of projects in over 60 countries, and have a market leadership position in Africa. They provide banks with digital, self-service and payments solutions, and claim to have the broadest set of digital channel solutions available on the market ranging from Mobile and Internet through to USSD and self service capabilities.

Kabelo Ngwako (pictured), BSB Director of Support Services, said he looks forward to working with CR2 on this significant milestone for the bank. “This investment for BSB is important and we were careful to select an experienced and trusted vendor with knowledge of our market. As CR2 are highly rated and recognised by analysts as a world leading provider of digital banking platforms we know that by bringing them onboard to roll out our digital channels they will give us a platform that will put us at the cutting edge of modern banking in Botswana.”

The BSB project is set to go live in March 2021, and Meabh Maguire, CR2’s Global Commercial Manager, said that she believes BSB’s move into Digital Banking will give them the edge in an already highly competitive market; “Our BankWorld platform will enable BSB to offer their customers a state-of-the-art digital banking and payments service. In the times that we now find ourselves living, it is key that a bank reacts and adapts quickly for its customers and with this investment, BSB are making a strong statement as to their commitment to the future and to ensuring their customers have access to the best digital banking services available.”
