Newry's KX Agree Deal with Williams Racing Formula 1 Team

Part of First Derivatives, KX Systems to Enhance the Analytical Capabilities of World's Most Iconic Formula One Teams

Williams Racing have announced that KX, a global leader in real-time streaming analytics and part of the First Derivatives Group, is to join the team as an Official Supplier, supporting its data analytics capabilities.

Williams Racing have announced that KX, a global leader in real-time streaming analytics and part of the First Derivatives Group, is to join the team as an Official Supplier, supporting its data analytics capabilities.

Whether on the track, in the garage or at the factory, the ability to capture and analyse data in real-time is a critical requirement for Formula One teams. The agreement will see KX implement a total analytics solution, combining real-time analytics, a time-series database, complex event processing, machine learning and data visualisation tools in one platform. The Williams Racing team say this will significantly enhance their analytical capabilities, supporting the continuous development and improvement of their 2021 car, the FW43B, for drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi on track, and also the wider operational performance of the team.

Built on one of the world’s fastest time-series databases, kdb+, the KX platform enables the near instantaneous analysis of real-time and historic data, and will give Williams Racing a single point of access to all data regardless of system, format and location. Designed to be highly scalable, it will simultaneously reduce data capture and reporting times while increasing analytical performance.

KX Streaming Analytics, built on the kdb+ time-series database, is an industry leading high-performance, in-memory computing, streaming analytics and operational intelligence platform. It delivers the best possible performance and flexibility for high-volume, data-intensive analytics and applications across multiple industries.

It is expected to deliver significant efficiency and utilization benefits right across the team, according to Tim Hunt, Commercial and Marketing Director for Williams Racing, from maximising regulation wind tunnel testing time to reducing labour intensive tasks. Talking at the announcement this morning, he said: “KX share a similar passion to Williams, one of ambition and success. As we continue to progress as a team, we are delighted to announce this partnership with KX, casting a spotlight on real-time streaming analytics. The agreement will see the team continue to develop both on and off the track by improving our analytical capabilities. We look forward to working with KX throughout the 2021 season and beyond.”

The Williams team was bought by Dorilton Capital in 2020, seeing Sir Frank Williams leaving 43 years after setting the team in 1977 with Patrick Head. Over the last four decades, the team has won 9 Constructors Championships and powered Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damian Hill and Jacques Villeneuve to World Drivers Championships.

Seamus Keating, CEO of KX, said; Like racing cars, KX is built for speed and efficiency so we’re delighted to be working with Williams Racing, one of Formula One’s most iconic names, at the beginning of a new chapter in their history.  From our early days working with financial institutions to solve complex data challenges at ultra-low latency, we have since expanded into other industries where the need for the real-time capture and analysis of data is a critical differentiator. Motorsports is known as an industry where milliseconds can make all the difference and we are excited to see what we can achieve together.”
