Wexford-based Video Interview Start Up To Represent Ireland in Innovate!Top 100 Competition

Fergal O ByrneWexford Video start-up has been judged to be Ireland's most promising start-up after it won the Innovate!2010 Dublin Pitch Slam. The event was  hosted by Microsoft BizSpark and EnterpriseIreland on March 8th.

The  Innovate!2010 global competition exists to identify and promote the world's top 100 technology start-ups, which are known as   the Innovate!100. By winning top honors at the Dublin Pitch Slam, Sonru has  guaranteed itself a spot on the Innovate!100 list for 2010.

The Pitch Slam in Dublin is one of more than 20 regional events in the Innovate!2010 competition that spans Europe and the United States. Pitch Slam events are produced by Guidewire Group, a leading analyst firm which focuses exclusively on start-ups and emerging markets.

At each Pitch Slam, start-ups are evaluated by a panel of expert judges using  the Guidewire Group's G/Score, a leading assessment methodology that has been proven as a reliable predictor of startup viability and promise

Sonru CEO Fergal O¹Byrne (Pictured) said: "We are delighted to have won the Dublin Pitch Slam thus guaranteeing Sonru a place on the highly coveted Innovate 100 top 100 Start-Ups in the world. We are proud to represent Ireland in this regard. It is also a tremendous validation of both our business model and our products. We look forward to capitalising on this
win and furthering our global ambitions"

This is Sonru's  second accolade this week. It also won the Bank of Ireland Bright Ideas Challenge Grand Final, which was held in the House of Lords,College Green, Dublin on March 3rd.

Sonru Founder Edward Hendrick said: " Winning these awards will enable us to grow faster, evolve our products at a greater pace and consolidate the gains we have made already. We are thrilled."

The Bright Ideas Challenge is open to all start-ups, SMEs, sole traders or social enterprises considered to be an innovative product or service, have an exciting export opportunity, a company with high growth potential, or a strong management team.

Sonru is an automated online video tool used by companies in Recruitment, Education, Training and CRM to conduct secure, shareable video interviews. The tool can be used anywhere that remote video can bring efficiencies to  otherwise time-consuming  business activities such as job interviews and candidate selection processes.

Wexford-born  Heaton founded Sonru ( from the Irish phrase Bí le sonrú  which means to stand out ) in February 2009.  Sonru provides a platform for employers to run the first interview process without  spending  lots of time meeting and greeting vast amounts of people, many of whom will prove inadequate.

Traditionally, whilst an applicant may stack up on paper, the first interview is more a box checking exercise to ascertain the candidate's level of knowledge, technical ability or suitability. Rarely does a HR director or hiring manager involve themselves until later, when the need for probing questions means the level of interaction has to be so much higher.
